About Us

Cajun Water Retrievers started out in Covington, Louisiana and has recently moved to Carriere, Mississippi.  It’s a 58 - minute drive North across the Causeway Bridge from New Orleans and an hour and 41 minute drive from Baton Rouge. We are located on a small farm, where we breed and raise Labrador Retrievers and Miniature horses. Cajun Water Retrievers was Inspired by our first Labrador Retriever named Rowdy. Not knowing when we got him, he would be the most entertaining, calm, compassionate and sensitive dog we would ever own. Rowdy comes from hunting lines, as we are not active hunters, our family has many hunters among us that we whole heartedly support. Rowdy has a high drive yet is the calmest dog when indoors. His personality is one of a kind. Which is why we started breeding Labs. We wanted to continue his lines and share his heritage with others, so his offspring can be enjoyed for many years by others. Our goal is to place pups with those who have a love for the breed, want a dog fully health tested with a chance at a longer life expectancy, to have as a companion or give it job-whether it be hunting, dock diving, service/therapy and even scent detection. We start all our pups out with both (ENS/ESI) desensitization sounds and scent testing as early as 3 days old. We start the pups out on different terrains and environments as they grow. We fully health test our dogs through Embark, have certified their hips, elbows and eyes through OFA. All our dogs are AKC registered, and some are even dual registered under UKC as well. We only breed the three main colors recognized by AKC which are yellow, black and chocolate. Our yellow dogs are considered “Fox Red” colored due to their coats being the darkest shade of yellow. We do not breed dilutes, as in champaign, silver or charcoal. We do not believe in this practice and know that these colors can come with many health problems that arise as the dog grows older. Our hope is to provide others with the knowledge and skills to have a successful relationship with their dogs and transition into their new home with the most positive experience for all.
